I was kind of wondering that here as I wrote my last message.
Templating religion aside, I *think* it's a choice/modularity vs.
backwards compat debate at the heart of it. Perhaps a
community/consensus vs. owner debate? It doesn't seem like this thread
is going anywhere really since Jesse made it clear he wasn't going to
