  You should check if they can be get 
  via debian. More and more can be. Use

apt-cache search foo
apt-get install foo

 I have the same problem with authorclaim. There are now
  only three pieces of perl you can't get via debian. I
  have been working on a cpan script to automate the process.

  I agree it's a pain.
