Tim, thanks for booting the machine up. Did you notice anything? It looks 
like it had a regular shutdown. From syslog:

Then I found this in /etc/crontab:

strangely, this does not show when I do 'crontab -l'

In any case, in order to plan for the next emergency, my travel schedule 
is here :-)
