  Then you have to run

grub-install -recheck  --root-directory=/vol /dev/sdb1

  without a successful grub install it will not run.

  Try again with the grup install.

  Most likely. Change taht fgile so that /dev/sdb is supposed to
  run the root.

  But try another grub-install first.
