*** Thanks, I got it working.  Not sure exactly why it didn't work at
first - probably some minor typo.

   Now I'm trying to get the whole config data structure thing in order.
Spent a day or so learning about Perl data structures - things like
anonymous arrays and hashes, and ref's to them and dereferencing them, and
converting between them....  Strange new stuff for this old C programmer.
